A VR headset’s tracking cannot tell the difference between your head moving and the whole platform moving. Without compensation, the picture inside the HMD (Head Mounted Display) can “jump” or drift when the simulator moves — the tracking hardware is simply not designed for motion platforms out of the box. The solution is motion compensation.
With motion compensation, a tracker mounted on the rig measures exactly how the platform moves, and that movement is cancelled out of the headset’s view. Your view stays locked to the cockpit — even during continuous rotation, where the platform can turn all the way around beneath you without you losing your forward view.
Motion compensation is currently available for SteamVR-compatible headsets, using OVRMC and a Vive Tracker (or a hand controller). You can find our step-by-step setup guide in the manual HERE.
